Character Profile
Nix
Nix is a thirty-two year-old guitar teacher, semi-professional cyclist, and freelance sustainability consultant based in Melbourne, Australia. She lives with her partner and child and works in a wired unit within a sustainable three storey dwelling with a green roof where she and her husband grow vegetables. Nix enjoys the freedom and flexibility of working from either her home or her client's location as opposed to daily commutes to an office. She splits her freelance consulting work with competitive biking and recruits corporate sponsors to support her biking hobby. Nix and her neighbors maintain their communal green roof and this has led to close ties. Because of their self-sufficient lifestyle, her family's footprint is close to 1. And ultimately, Nix values health and happiness over material wealth.
Nix feels her life is now much easier as government policies finally support the ecologically-aware lifestyle she was pioneering 10 years ago. The family (she now has a second child) travels by bike as much as possible and takes holidays within Australia, to show the children their country, and minimise carbon emissions. Their green apartment contains a vital home management system, which monitors energy and water use, acts as a highly advanced communication tool and even plans the family's meals.
