Character Profile
Imani Sabana
Imani is a 25 year-old hybrid. She is a social-environmental advocate by day, DJ by night and fundraising coordinator and volunteer on weekends and a photojournalist throughout. Born and raised in Ottawa, Imani now lives in a loft in Queen West, the art and design district of Toronto, Canada. She grew up with international parents and spent her upbringing living and moving to many different places. Taking the advice of her childhood pen pal Abele she completed a double major at the University of Toronto in political science and architecture. She now lives with her pen pal. Imani relies on the Toronto Transit Commission to get around the city. Imani makes it a point to get to know all of the businesses in her community and she engages in town hall and community meetings; regularly she volunteers at a local shelter down the street. One of her biggest dreams is to travel to Jerusalem to revel in the history and architecture of the city. Imani likes to travel, enjoys food and is not materialistic but likes to live comfortably by her own standards. The largest contributor to her global footprint is air travel. Digital photography is how she sees the world and the internet enables her to share her vision with her friends all around the world. Imani believes in God because of all of the spiritual encounters she has experienced. She sees a unity in all of the life forms and things which surround her.
In 2020, Imani wakes up at 5am to start her day with stretching followed by a time of reflection, praying and reading. She likes this early morning hour as it allows her to focus for the day and get organized before her son and husband wake up. She then takes pride in preparing a organic and wholesome breakfast for her family and packs lunch for her son to take to school. By 7am everyone is up and ready to go and then the three of them walk to Osaze's school to drop him off. Her husband and her then take a jog around the neighbourhood and get back and ready to start their work day at 8:30am. They both set up their offices in the house and work fairly independently throughout the day. They break for lunch and a couple snacks throughout the day but are fairly engrossed with their work and meetings until their son comes home. Sometimes their work will be offsite but most of the time it is at home. After her son comes home and after dinner, depending on the evening they will sometimes attend a course or skill training session together as a family. They like to try things theyve never tried before such as an artistic, music, or language course. By 9pm Osaze is ready for bed and her and her husband usually spend the last hour relaxing to some music and herbal tea before going to bed themselves. For the most part its much more routine than she's used to but she is embracing this new era of her life and is looking forward to the new addition in 8 months.
