Character Profile

George L.

George is a nine-year old 5th grader living in Mill Valley with his parents and sister. He is curious about everything, interested in life and enjoys playing with lego and building experiments. George loves food but particularly peanut butter and honey sandwiches and sushi with salmon eggs. While he has had a chance to travel, one day, George hopes he gets to visit Disney World. Technology is second nature to him because it has always been part of what he does and what he knows.
George is living a fabulous life as a global nomad on an extended gap year. Free from the usual everyday life patterns he is travelling the world, sometimes without a clue where he will sleep at night. To keep in contact with his family, and make his travel plans as he goes, George relies on his mobile communicator; a mobile phone and computer rolled into one device. He is aware that things cost financially more now then when he was still a child, yet due to his mechanical brain he finds it more satisfying to mend old things than to buy new ones.
george has continued his travels and ended up staying in Norway. this is one of the counties of his genetic heritage and he found the plight of the nation compelling. they were on the long tail of the oil boom. one of the last european nations to have oil within their boundries. Russia still has quite a bit of gas. as the Norwegians realized that their fields were running out they looked outwards to accept all clever ideas for the conversion of their economy/society. George was attracted to this and helped to figure out how to adapt to the steadily decreasing annual temperatures, due to the slowing to the Northern Atlantic current. the lack of sunshine weighed upon him so that after he finished his two degrees he decided to follow his life-long dream of visiting the other end of the world - South Africa. South Africa was now a confederation of the Sub-Saharan states. It is a fascinating experiment in new-democracy that has added representation with responsibility and accountability. the historians finally figured out that this is what led to the rapid demise of the USA democratic experiment. He is now applying his virtual and natural systems understanding to a land-cooperative. he has been welcomed, with some scepticism as another 'northerner' who wants to escape. the co-operative is looked upon as a flagship experiment to lead to Life @ 1 Planet. he is very hopeful. many things have changed. the oil peak is long passed. the energy winter created by the push to create renewable capacity is still with the world. this, and rebuilding the worlds major ports is taking the vast majority of global GDP. inequity is still the norm. but, new globally agreed Carbon regulation is forcing change. it is not easy. but it is necessary.
