Character Profile

BlueMan

Name:
BlueMan
Age:
36 Years Old
Occupation:
Inventor, Entrepreneur, Freelancing, Urban farmer and consulting work for Arup
Where do they live (geographic coordinates or location)?
Ontario, Canada - more specifically on top of a hill in Orleans about 6 km from Petrie Island in East Ottawa, approximately 70 m above the mean river level.
Why did they choose to live where they live?
Choose to live there for the following reasons:

Close to source of freshwater to collect drinking water if need be.

Elevation sufficiently high enough to avoid any major floodings.

Mid way up hill so as to take avantage of rainwater harvesting which is used to water plantings, showering, cleaning and the micro climate on the hill is perfect for growing, lots of animals such as deer and rabbits and also fish in the lake

Far enough from the equator as the average temperature there seems to be rising.

Take advantage of the wind currents to generate electricity.

What kind of dwelling do they occupy?
Dwelling is made from wood, clays, mud and takes advantage of a green roof for cooling/heating purposes. The walls are such that it allows for breathability and during the winter the surrounding trees give much protection from wind etc.
With whom do they live?
Live with family but there are other such dwellings in close proximity so as to take advantage of energy (amonsgt other savings).
How do they get to work?
During ride my bike down the hill and then connect it to my canoe/watercraft (person powered) if I need to cross the river close by to where I live but mostly communicate using internet as that's how I make most of my annual income.
How do they get around their community in general?
Generally bicycling is the dominant form of travel for short distances. Person powered bicycle/watercraft to cross river or fish. Hot air ballons (heated by solar power) are also used for one person travel.
How do they relate to the people in their community?
Everyone in the community relates well to each other especially knowing that together we can do better. During the summer we all get togther for harvesting fruits and vegetable grown on the hillside slopes.
Who do they interact with most?
Interaction is with family, friends, community, coworkers and broad community around the world using the internet.
Do they travel?
Yes.
Where have they commonly traveled?
At times when the weather is poor, travel to zones either futher north or south depending on time of year. Mostly travel to Niagra region.
What is the furthest distance they have travelled? Where?
500 km south of where I live (just south of Great Lakes) or 1000 km north to Thunder Bay area.
What is the one place they would like to visit and why?
Visit the Niagra Region where there are plentiful foods and wine.
What is their attitude toward food?
Whatever can be grown locally and that does not require a large amount of energy to produce is considered to the most prevalently consumend. Sprouts are one of the types of foods that is easily grown which dont required nutrients and only need a combination of florescents and avaliable sunlight. Meats are obtained from animals such as cows and goats - roam free on the mountain sides (combination of steep and shallow slopes)
What is their favourite meal? What is something they have never eaten but would like to try?
Favourite meal are dried meats and berries and sprouts (broccoli, pea etc.) juice. Something they have never eaten are roots and insects.
What is the highest level of education they pursued/completed?
Education is a high priority and university level education is most often sought even if farming is the ultimate aim.
How much do they earn monthly?
Monthly earnings generally correlate with how much one wants to work - I sometimes work a little harder during the winter on various ideas that others want help and have more time for family and growing crops during the rest of the year (like the summer). Also some entrepreneural ideas starting to make a decent contribution to income. Arup pay goes towards covering most of the other house hold needs. Though a co-op with neighbours... labour taking care of cattle or crops and maintainance of homes allows for partaking in harvests instead of paying cash for such things.
What was their most expensive purchase?
Most expensive purchase are for solar power cells, wind turbines and associated energy producing machinery (ie. Collecting energy from flowing river).
How do they relate to material wealth?
Material wealth in the form of growing bountiful harvests and keeping natural surrounding are more important than necesseraily having the money to purchase the newest model of car or labtop.
What is their global footprint? To what do you attribute the largest part of their footprint? (ie travel, purchases, food)
Largest footprint is food and the energy required to produce it - some cows, sheep are raised on the mountain! Aquafish farming - ie farming fish in pens in urban settings. Travel locally is by bike or air baloon.
What are their hobbies and interests?
Space travel, growing crops and raising animals and fish, being able to use my hot air ballon/glider....... medicines from roots, barks etc.
What is their favourite colour?
Favourite color is blue green
Who is their favourite music band?
house mix
What was the last book they read?
Is life possible anywhere else other than on Earth?
What is their attitude toward technology and why?
Technology is good but in terms that it actually does help towards increasing knowledge for medicine, growing foods, drinking water, entertainment, communications and travel.
What technology could they not live without?
Energy generators such as solar, wind and geothermal. Possibly have to make my own device which collects drinking water from humidity in the air - this would be most important if I did not have the knowledge to make my own.
What are their key values?
Live a one planet lifestyle and to live in a manner that allows for future generations to be able to have the same level that their forefathers had. To produce zero garbage or material that is required to go to landfills.
How would you describe their upbringing? How have things changed?
Upbringing was quite wastefull when it came to energy usage, food and production of garbage. Things have changed in such a manner that an attitude shift lead to placing a higher importance on locally produced products and foods. Taking a plane to distant lands are minimized and take longer. Products that are produced are now designed to have a livetime at least as long as the owner purchasing it.... it is considered a very good thing to be able to pass on possessions to future generations. Everyone has a carbon card that tracks how much environmental degredation is caused by the products or travel etc that they consume or take part in.
What are their personal strengths and weaknesses?
strenght is knowing that together we have a chance to make it to the year 2100. Weakness is to stop from needing the next best thing.
What is their next big life event?
Colony in space -
What do they care about?
Each other and personal well being of oneself, family and surroundings.
