Which of the four worlds do you believe that your character will be living in?
Selfish Bubble
Why?
Despite the bad economy at the last decade, the world is still living in the selfish bubble. we still make and consume too much stuff. i live a comfortable life as do my friends but as i've gotten older and traveled more i am very much aware this is not the case for many others.
What has been the most significant event in their life over the past 10 years?
In ten years i've gone from being a curious little boy with boundless energy to being a young adult with boundless energy. I've recently graduated from high school (voted most like a fuel cell; always full of energy) and much to the dismay of my parents and the University Recruiters I have taken a gap year...which is looking like it might be two year. The primary focus of my gap year has been to travel to emerging urban areas and use my mad skills in being able to fix, build and adapt anything with moving parts.
What is most different for the character in 2020 compared the way they lived in 2010?
I have many more freedoms now but things cost more than they did when i was younger. or at least that is what i am told. as well items seem a bit less widely available. The US Government has realised that education might be the way out of our problems at after the Iraq war the returning veterans were the first to go through the new government programme which allowed anyone who wanted an a higher education and could secure a location based merrit would be able to attend at zero cost or cost as a function of available family income. The results are just now being felt in our economy
What has remained the same?
I still wind my sister up and I still like peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Cars don't fly or anything like that. Most things seem the same cosmedically but i think people are more aware of their impact (not that it changes things)
What is their lifestyle now?
My life is very different in that I am not currently living in a posh house in the idelic mill valley, ca. because i'm on my gap year there are days that i do not know where i'm going to sleep, which isn't all that different than the lives of those i'm trying to help help themselves. if i were still in mill valley, not much would be different. energy efficiency is more important than ever because the cost of energy has gone up. most items are no longer single use because the cost of waste removal i huge!
Where is your character living now?
my mail still goes to mill valley but this year i'm a global nomad and today i'm living in Peru, I'm next going to take a rare container ship up and through the panama canal (the orginal not the second one) before they close it entirely and as a mechanical geek i have to see it. For the last 2 years the northwest passage over the arctic has been open so it has slowed traffic through the canal. after i make it through the canal i'm going to norway
With whom are they living?
i still "live" with my parents and sister but traveling it's me and who ever i'm sitting next to. My sister has met me a couple places and i get to see my dad every couple months too.
What is their occupation now?
Gap Year Student / Global Nomad
How to they get there?
i usually follow my feet but in south america its trains, sometimes planes but they tend to be expensive
How does your character get around in general?
i generally walk most places. when i was in brazil i found an old broken bike and fixed it. so that got me around, when i left brazil i gave my bike to a single mother of two, it saves her two hours of walking a day to and from her job!
Do they travel?
yes
What is the furthest distance they have travelled?
Patagonia on my gap year but i LOVE sushi and have been to japan before i graduated
What is the one place they would like to visit?
South Africa
What is their favourite meal?
it's still sushi which i miss a lot right now
What is something they have never eaten but would like to try?
i've never eaten piss shark and don't really want to try but if its ever offered to me i'll try it
What do they purchase on a regular basis and where?
the thing i buy most is food and stamps
What was their most expensive purchase?
hmmm...my dad got me a round the world plane ticket which was really expensive but for me the most expensive thing was flying lessons, i'm a licensed pilot!
What technology could they not live without? Has this changed over time?
my mobile communicator has literally saved my life. it's basically a mobile phone and computer in one with one access service so i stay connected with friends and family and have been recording my gap year but it's helped loads when i run into something i can't fix, the open source patent resource has been invaluable
What was the last book/website they read/perused?
i just read my dad's last book and was clicking around my sisters studio's web site.
How does the character socially interact now?
i interact with new people almost daily
How do they relax?
i'm on a gap year...it's all about relaxing
What is their next big life event?
either deciding to go home and to university or deciding to take a second gap year
What do they care most about now?
making the world better because i'm here, and becoming the best version of myself. Which obviously including being close to my family and friends
What is a headline from their local paper now?
Fees drop for passage through panama canal as northwest arctic passage opens for second year
In a paragraph describe a typical day in the life for your character from the moment they wake up until they go to bed.
i don't have a typical day
