Why?
Looking at the changes of the last 10 years and assuming the same trends continue into the next 10 years this seems the most likely option. 10 years is easily long enough to do serious harm to the environment,but not long enough to drastically change people's habits!
What has been the most significant event in their life over the past 10 years?
Meeting and proposing to his future wife Lydia
What is most different for the character in 2020 compared the way they lived in 2010?
Not being single and planning for the future.

Interests and level of consumerism

Working from home, socialising and spending money,occasionally selling off some art to fund a new building project.

with his partner and a three legged cat.

Works from home mainly, unless visiting sites, usually cycling
How does your character get around in general?
cycling or public transport when absolutely vital. His partner Lydia despises all private vehicles unless ecologically sound. Since an electric car which Fred finds aesthetically pleasing has not yet been designed their main form of transport is walking or cycling.
Do they travel?
Yes-in britain, mainly to visit family and friends. Occasionally within Europe for work, Fred's wife to be insists on train travel rather than air on rare foreign holidays. Fred insists on first class.
What is the furthest distance they have travelled?
Japan-using the excuse of their first anniversary since meeting, Fred booked a surprise trip to Japan. Knowing this was the sort of long haul flight Lydia would disapprove of he took the opportunity of the surprise to fit in a trip to an art auction also.
What is the one place they would like to visit?
Lydia wants to travel through Russia and Mongolia by train-Fred will not agree unless they can fly first class instead.This stale mate means they will get as far as dorset this year
What is their favourite meal?
Fred has discovered a passion for cooking coupled with an expanding waistline means he is looking more at what he eats and where it comes from. In an effort to impress his partner he is learning about local food and cooking hearty british dishes. Truely his favourite meal is still cheese and wine-but now it is very expensive English cheese and wine from small producers.

Books,art,wine sourced from everywhere bought online.

The refurb of his current home.

High speed broadband to work from home.This has become even more important overtime.

His own site-checking his sales....and a variety of wedding venues online...

With a much wider range of people thanks to his new partner and spending a lot more money thanks to his art and property investments.
How do they relax?
In the home gym, or with a big gin and tonic and his 3 legged rescue cat sat on his lap watching downloads of 80s TV shows.

In a paragraph describe a typical day in the life for your character from the moment they wake up until they go to bed.
Woken up by partner leaving for work at 6am, turns over and sleeps until 9am.Reads email with brakfast of black coffee.Responds to emails after hour in home gym. Meets friend for brunch at expensive,trendy new cafe a few streets away, returns home via specialist book shop-buys a few limited editions as investments.Checks email again, short seista with cat. Late afternoon makes phone calls whilst on treadmill. Early evening takes taxi to meet Lydia from work, but gets out round the corner so she'll think he walked. Go for walk along the river, accidentally end up in very expensive bistro where Fred orders most expensive wine on menu. Tube home-against his wishes,asleep by 12am with cat and Lydia.
